An Emergency lighting system must be installed in a business when the floor space is more than 300m2. To ensure safe passage for the occupiers and visitors of the building keeping regular lighting maintenance up to date is essential to provide the safest evacuation path possible. According to the Building Code of Australia emergency Lighting must be installed on every level in a building that is used for an evacuation path if a room has a floor space of more than 100m2 and does not open to a hallway a system must be installed.
Referring to the AS2293.2 the recommended maintenance check for an emergency lighting system is no more than 6 monthly intervals. Every 12 months another service is to be conducted completing all the same inspections that a 6 monthly service would but including the cleaning and fitting of the luminaires.
